Offroad Racing

Offroad racing is a type of auto racing which sees various classes of vehicles compete in an off-road course. Offroad racing does not take place on a specific or paved track like other forms of racing, such as dirt track or single seat racing. Offroad racing can involve many classes of vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles or buggies.

A History Of Off Road Racing

Off road racing history began in the early 1900's. However, it wasn't until 1967 when NORRA or the National Off-Road Racing Association became the first governing body in North America that the sanctioning of the sport started. Ed Pearlman was the founder of the association. The very first offroad racing event was a race across the Mexican desert called the Mexican 1000. Score Off Road Racing now handles the renamed Baja 1000 event. There are also other formats in offroad racing including circuit races less than 5 miles and stadium racing. How is it that off road racing can take place on a temporary “offroad” racetrack inside a stadium? Off-road racing can also refer to hill climbing courses or other special conditions, so the term is occasionally applied to races that use an offroad type of track.

Beyond Offroad Racing History

But there's life beyond the history of offroad racing. Modern day contests involve the use of R/C offroad racing, or electric off road racing. This is a scaled down version of the old stadium races of yesterday and features a closed dirt course with radio controlled vehicles, just as technologically advanced and powerful as you would expect from an off road race. This type of championship off road racing has become so popular in recent years it has championship games on local, regional, national and even world class levels. Be aware of the contest rules before playing, since some mechanical modifications to off-road racing units is illegal.

Watching off road racing videos is also a favorite past time of many racing fans. You can visit one of many user submitted content sites and watch actual footage of off road racing cars, races and wrecks. If watching footage isn't exciting enough and if you're not quite ready to compete in R/C electric off road racing games, then you can still look for off road racing games online. Off road racing is fun and challenging – no matter if you're riding in an official race, playing R/C electric racing or testing your virtual driving skills online.
