The official Nascar formation of Nascar began on February 21, 1948 at Daytona Beach, Florida.

Nascar made many changes in the 1970's, eventually growing into the large sports organization that is followed today. The Winston Cup was created as the sport's top prize in 1971, while the Grand National title came from the Late Model Sportsman division. It was also in the 1970's decade when Nascar logos and coverage of the sport first started appearing on network television. By 1979, the Daytona 500 race became the first stock race to be nationally televised.
