Ferrari F1 is the name of the Gestione Sportiva by Ferrari, which is the division for racing. The division concentrates its efforts on the Ferrari F1 team, Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari is the oldest and perhaps the most successful team left in the F1 championship. Current drivers for Ferrari Formula One racing include Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen. The team principal is Jean Todt and Stefano Domenicali is the sporting director.

A History Of F1 Ferrari

The Ferrari F1 team was founded as far back as 1929 when Scuderia Ferrari raced for Alfa Romeo. The Ferrari company was founded by Enzo Ferrari the same year and had its beginnings in sponsoring drivers and manufacturing racing cars. It wasn't until 1947 that Ferraris became available to the public as street legal vehicles. Ferrari F1 first completed in F1 competition in the year 1948. The first Ferrari F1 car was called the Tipo 125 F1. Other notable Ferrari Formula 1 cars included the Tipo 815.

By the 1950's decade the Ferrari Formula 1 team made its first appearance in the F1 World Championship race. The 1950 Monaco Grand Prix saw the Ferrari Formula One 125 supercharged V12 car compete with respected drivers Alberto Ascari and Gigi Villoresi. Ferrari Formula One cars would soon break the winning streak of the Alfa Romero team in 1951 when Jose Gonzales won first place at the British Grand Prix.

The 1960's saw many changes in F1 regulation and Ferrari struggled to meet the demands with their line of new cars. Some, such as the 156 F1 Ferrari car were smaller and lighter than in previous years. Other vehicles like the 312 Surtees Ferrari F1 car used a heavier chassis. For the remainder of the decade, the Ferrari Car Formula 1 was restructured and struggled to retain their spot as the world's fastest car. The 1970's saw more drastic changes as Ferrari eventually stopped all development of sports cars in prototype and GR racing. Ferrari would start to taste success once again after signing new drivers and taking new direction in production. Throughout the 80's and 90's and into the new millennium, Ferrari has continued to score points with and ruffle feathers of longtime fans, with some controversial but arguably beneficial decisions.
